"It is humiliating to have to beg, but it is a privelege for this corporal work of mercy in renewing the Catholic priesthood. Our staff and offices are small, but our funding needs are substantial. Consequently we have incurred a lot of debt serving priests, and the mission continues to grow. Please consider contacting me about making a donation or refering me to someone you know."

"We really need your help!"

  • Over 3,000 Catholic priests have contacted Opus Bono Sacerdotii (Opus Bono) and one new priests calls, emails, or writes Opus Bono each day.
  • All of these priests have been removed from ministry.
  • Hundreds of Bishops, including Pope Benedict XVI encourage the work of Opus Bono and the care we provide for them and their priests.
  • We have a staff of only four full-time and six part-time lay people and priests serving thousands of priests and bishops.
  • The mission of Opus Bono is primarily in serving priests in the USA, however, there are many priests outside of the USA that are now seeking Opus Bono for assistance.
  • The Holy See has asked us to help priests.
  • We turn no priest away.
  • Many active priests experiencing some personal crisis now contact Opus Bono for advice and support, and their bishops encourage them to seek our help.
  • Opus Bono charges no fees to priests or bishops for the services it provides and must rely entirely on donations to survive.
  • Opus Bono Sacerdotii is the only lay organization of its type in the world.
  • As more priests come to Opus Bono for help, more funding resources are needed to support them.
  • We have a policy in our office, when a priests calls we drop everything to talk with him: serving the priests first, everything else second. This philosphy has hurt us financially because we just don't have the time or staff to raise money professionally.
  • You can make an online donation by clicking FUNDING. Or send a check to Opus Bono Sacerdotii, 3430 E. Jefferson Ave. Suite 309, Detroit, MI 48207.

"It is edifying to see such lay people willing to risk everything to help so many in the ministerial priesthood. It is a priviege for me to be here, thank you."

and member of the Holy See upon his visit from Rome in October 2007
and offering Holy Mass in Our Lady of Priests Chapel

The Dark Night of the Soul
"Anyone, Jesus says, can live the virtue of strict justice at a certain level. A paraphrase of Jesus might read like this: Anyone can be nice to those who are nice to them, can forgive those who forgive them, and can love those who love them. But can we love those who hate us? Can we be gracious to those who curse us? That's the litmus test of Christian orthodoxy and it's what's being asked of us in this scandal. Can we love, forgive, reach out and be empathic in a new way? Can we have compassion for both the victim and the perpetrator? Can we have compassion for some of our church leaders who made mistakes? Can we give of our money when it seems we are paying for someone else's sin? Can we help carry something that doesn't make us feel good and clean? This is a dark night of the soul. Like every dark night it's menat to stretch the heart."

Fr. Ron Rolheiser, OMI
